Frequently Asked Questions About Hail Repair

  • What is Paintless Dent Repair?

Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) is an advanced, non-invasive technique to remove dents, dings, and hail damage from your vehicle's body panels without sanding, filling, or repainting. Using specialized tools, our expert technicians gently massage the metal back to its original shape from behind the panel, preserving your factory paint finish. This makes PDR faster, more affordable, and eco-friendly than traditional bodywork—ideal for hail damage when the paint is undamaged (no cracks or chips). It restores your vehicle to like-new condition while protecting its resale value.

  • What is a Hail Evaluation?

A Hail Evaluation is a quick, free, no-obligation inspection of your vehicle's hail damage, designed to give you a clear, expert repair plan without any pressure to proceed.

At Apex, our Apex Hail Manager meets you for just 5-15 minutes at the most convenient spot: your home, workplace, or our shop.

    During this short session, we:

    • Determine if PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) is the ideal method (perfect when paint is intact—no cracks or chips).

    • Assess if your vehicle qualifies for a zero out-of-pocket repair. Discuss rental assistance options, including up to $500 reimbursement if you qualify based on damage extent.

At the end, you'll get a detailed repair plan from Apex—including estimated timeline, scope, and costs—so you can decide what's best for you. No commitment required!

  • Is there any warranty?

Yes – we proudly offer a limited lifetime warranty on all Paintless Dent Repair work. This covers the repaired areas against dent recurrence, panel issues, or workmanship defects for as long as you own the vehicle. If anything related to our repair arises under normal use, we'll fix it at no cost to you. PDR done right is permanent, and our warranty gives you lasting confidence in your vehicle's appearance and value.

  • Will this affect my insurance premiums?

No – comprehensive claims for hail (an "act of God") typically don't raise your rates. We handle filing and coordination to keep things simple.

  • Can I Keep the Insurance check and not fix my car?

Technically yes—if you own your vehicle outright (no lienholder), the insurance payout is yours to use as you see fit, and you're not legally required to make repairs.

However, we strongly recommend against it for several important reasons:

    • Unrepaired hail damage can significantly reduce your car's resale or trade-in value (often by 10-30% or more), lead to rust, paint cracking, or other issues over time, and potentially complicate future claims.

    • If another hail storm hits, insurers may deny or reduce coverage for the new damage because it's difficult (or impossible) to distinguish old dents from fresh ones. They often treat unrepaired prior hail as "pre-existing damage" and won't pay for overlapping or indistinguishable areas, leaving you to cover those repairs yourself.

    • In future claims (even non-hail ones like collisions), the payout could be lowered by deducting the estimated value of the unrepaired hail damage, as the vehicle is restored only to its pre-accident (already damaged) condition.

    • Some insurers may even limit or drop your comprehensive coverage if they see persistent unrepaired hail damage, to avoid repeated payouts for the same issues.

Getting it fixed with PDR restores your vehicle's condition and protects your investment—often at little to no out-of-pocket cost after your deductible (which we frequently help minimize or waive). It's the smartest way to maintain full coverage eligibility, maximize your car's value, and avoid headaches down the road. If you're unsure about your specific policy, we recommend checking directly with your insurer.

  • Am I required to go with one of the insurance recommended shops?

No – you have the right to choose any repair shop you trust, including Apex. Insurance companies may recommend or "steer" you toward their preferred or Direct Repair Program (DRP) shops for convenience or negotiated rates, but they cannot require or force you to use them. You're free to select a specialist like us for top-quality PDR work. We work directly with all major insurers to ensure smooth claims and full coverage.

  • How long does repair take?

Days, not weeks – most jobs finish in 1–5 days depending on damage extent, with minimal downtime.

  • Do you offer mobile service or valet?

No mobile service, but yes—complimentary valet pickup/delivery + car rental coordination via insurance. We offer up to $500 rental reimbursement for qualifying hail damage claims to keep you driving.

  • Do I Have to Worry about the Dents or Hail Damage Ever Coming Back?

No – when performed correctly by experienced technicians, PDR is a permanent repair. We push the metal back to its original shape without stretching or weakening it, so the dents won't "pop back" under normal conditions. Backed by our limited lifetime warranty, you can drive with confidence knowing the repair is designed to last the life of your vehicle.

  • What's the cost?

Free evaluation and estimate. Most repairs are covered 100% by insurance after your deductible – often zero out-of-pocket with our help.

  • Can I tour your facility before scheduling paintless dent repair?

Absolutely – we welcome you to visit our shop anytime! Touring our clean, state-of-the-art facility lets you see our tools, meet our veteran technicians, and get a firsthand look at our process and quality standards. Just give us a call to schedule a quick walkthrough—no obligation, and it helps you feel fully confident in choosing Apex for your repair.

  • How long does it take for the insurance to review hail claim and approve for repairs?

It typically takes 1-4 weeks from filing to full approval and payout, depending on your insurer, claim volume after a storm, and damage complexity. After your hail evaluation, we handle filing the claim, coordinating the adjuster inspection (often quickly), and advocating for you to speed things along. Many of our customers see approval in 1-2 weeks, and we keep you updated every step so repairs can start promptly.

  • Will Paintless Dent Removal Decrease the Value of My Vehicle?

No – quite the opposite! Properly done PDR actually helps preserve or even restore your vehicle's resale value. Unlike traditional repairs that involve sanding, fillers, or repainting (which can lower value due to non-factory work), PDR keeps the original paint intact with no visible evidence of repair. This maintains the "like-new" appearance buyers love, avoiding deductions on trade-ins or private sales. Unrepaired hail dents can drop value significantly, but PDR fixes that without compromising anything.
